He began using KDE software in 2003 during his Masters degree studies in Physics and continued to do so while working as a Patent Examiner at the UK Intellectual Property Office from 2004 to2007. He left the UK IPO to complete a doctoral thesis in the computer analysis of X-Ray Fluorescence data at the UK National Oceanography Centre. During this time he also became an active member of the KDE community.
